At first glance the sensors that are set to revolutionise city living on a global scale, don’t seem like much. Weighing between a few ounces and a several pounds, the sensors will deliver large amounts of accurate and useful data on our environment, energy consumption, noise and pollution levels.
Intel have unveiled the first wave of sensors which will enable us to live healthier lives. Intel have not only engineered the devices themselves but also the software for analysing and visualising the massive sets of data that the sensors will collect on a daily basis.
Environmental sensors aren’t a new idea per se, meaning that in order to make a profit, Intel needed to come up with better, cheaper and more easily deployed versions which could be better integrated with the movement to create Smart Cities. In short, the Smart City initiative is considered with the ways in which technology can be used to manage resources – anything from water to transportation – more efficiently. Intel’s sensors and software will help to reach this goal.
