Samsung introduced Smart Appliances

A few weeks ago was the launch of 2012 smart home appliances by Samsung Electronics America. They asked actress Patricia Heaton, star of TV show The Middle, to be the spokeswoman for the launch. Samsung introduced a Wi-Fi enabled LCD refrigerator with apps that can help kitchen organization, a smart, phone-controlled washer/dryer that’s designed to give the user more freedom from the laundry room, a large capability oven that can be divided into two separate ovens for meal preparation flexibility and more.

Samsung and Heaton will also soon launch the “Make your House Work” online program. With this program people and companies can share ideas, inspirations and recommendations for the Samsung home appliances.  Samsung can then use all these ideas to keep consumer homes operating at peak performance.

The promotional focus of Samsung for their 2012 product line is the enhanced connectivity, capacity and convenience of their new products.

In terms of connectivity:

The new WF457 washing machine and dryer are Wi-Fi enabled and designed to be less time-consuming.  You can spend less time in the laundry room because the appliances are connected to a smartphone app which allows you to remotely stop, start and pause the appliances from a distance. In addition they also include a SpeedSpray technology that shoots a water and detergent solutions directly onto the clothes. This makes that the cleaning of the clothes begins faster and the cycle time of the washing machine is reduced by about 15 minutes compared to a similar washing machine without the SpeedSpray technology.

In terms of capacity enhancement:

The new refrigerator, a 32 cu. ft. French Door  Refrigerator, is the largest in its class. It can fit up to 32 bags of groceries in it.

And the High Efficiency Top Load Washer has a capacity of 5.4 cu. ft. It can do 2.4 laundry baskets (equals 32 bath towels) full of clothing at a time. This also reduces the time that you have to spend in the laundry room.

And in terms of convenience enhancement:

The new oven, called the Flex Duo Oven, has a very large capacity but it can be split into two separate ovens. A 2.7 cu. ft. and a 3.0. cu. ft. So you can cook one large meal or you can prepare two separate dished at different temperatures.

They also introduced a new induction range with Flex Cook zones. This offers a flexible cooking surface that can accommodate pots and griddles that doesn’t normally fir on standard-sized heating surfaces. They also have a boil sensor that helps eliminate boil-overs by alerting the user or automatically reducing the heat.

And as a last new introduction, they launched a new canister vacuum. These are now for the first time available in the U.S. Samsung said that these vacuums have a very reduced noise levels. They are so quit that you can vacuum at any time of the day or night without disturbing anybody with the sound.

All these technologies may not sound so special. But they all make for a better quality of life for citizens and they are build to be less polluting and bad for the environment and to use less energy therefore reducing the energy bills. This is why they are called Smart appliances and they fit perfectly in the Smart City concept.
